11th Annual G.B.C.C. Road Cycling Championship Results




They came, they saw, they rode! It was a weekend of excitement on the streets of Grand Bahama as cyclists took to the streets for the 11th Annual Grand Bahama Road Cycling Championships! As always it was a heated event, with high speeds from the beginning. And of course it would not be a Grand Bahama Cycling Championships without a bit of rain as the clouds threatened to open up and wash the cyclists in their cooling waters.

In the end, the cyclists were spared of the rain, b...ut they were not spared of the blistering sun nor that battering wind. The wind battered the cyclists as they rode into it, but pushed speeds up to 34mph as they rode with it. The high speeds along with the barrage of attacks put in by members of the Bahamas National Team in attempts to whittle down the pack soon created a separation of the peloton into different groups.

The Grand Bahama Cyclists Club is a club dedicated to the growth of cycling on the island of Grand Bahama. Although the club has been in existence for a number of years, it has existed more in name than in body as we have not had an official body of members or an "executive" committee. However....

After hosting two successful G.B.C.C. Tour De Grand Bahama cycling events, plans are already underway for the 2017 edition of this growing addition to the G.B.C.C. cycling calendar. The 3rd Annual Tour De Grand Bahama will be held on Saturday February 4th and Sunday February 5th, 2017. This is a two day, three stage cycling event that will be held on the island of Grand Bahama. The event will include a short Individual Time Trial followed by a Criterium Road Race on Saturday February 4th, 2017. On Sunday February 5th, 2017 the event will conclude with a 75 mile Road Race. There will be spot prizes and other awards given throughout the event, whose chief sponsor is the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism. The event is also sponsored by the Grand Bahama Port Authority and the Grand Bahama Tank Cleaning Company.

The 2017 edition of this event promises to be even more exciting than the two previous editions with a number of teams from Florida already committed to attend and over $5,000.00 in cash up for grabs!
